One Day Introduction to RO DBT

Self-control, the ability to inhibit competing urges, impulses, or behaviors is highly valued by most societies. However, excessive self-control has been linked to social isolation, aloof interpersonal functioning, maladaptive perfectionism, constricted emotional expressions, and difficult-to-treat mental health problems, such as anorexia nervosa, obsessive compulsive personality disorder and refractory depression. The aim of this workshop is to introduce clinicians to the theoretical foundations and new skills underlying Radically Open-Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) for disorders of overcontrol.

Objectives

After completing this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Explain a new biosocial theory for OC
  • Describe a novel treatment mechanism positing open expression = trust = social connectedness
  • List and define at least 3 new RODBT treatment strategies to enhance self-enquiry and flexible responding
  • List and define the 4 core deficits of Overcontrol
  • Describe the RODBT treatment structure
  • Describe the RODBT treatment hierarchy
  • Articulate the differences between RODBT and Standard DBT

Comprehensive DBT Training

Comprehensive DBT includes information on all the components of DBT: Skills Groups, Individual Therapy, and Consultation Team. This training prepares you for certification in DBT and gives you the knowledge to offer DBT as it was developed by Dr. Linehan.

Leading DBT Skills Groups

Two to three day workshops are available to teach you how to lead dialectical behavior therapy skills groups. Learn the main skills in the four modules (Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness) and how to apply DBT principles to skills groups.

Supervision in DBT

Supervision is available for certification and to help you apply the DBT principles and skills that you have learned. When possible, supervision of videotapes can be the most effective.

Supervision in RO DBT

Dr. Hall is the second clinician in the United States to be certified as a certified supervisor in RO DBT. She is also an expert team supervisor for RO DBT. If you have completed the intensive training in RO DBT and wish to strengthen your skills and expertise, contact Dr. Hall for supervision.
