Clinical Supervision

LMSW Supervision at the Houston DBT Center

At Houston DBT Center, we’re here to help Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSWs) advance their careers and achieve clinical licensure. We offer high-quality, individualized supervision from experienced professionals who provide guidance, support, and mentorship every step of the way. Our goal is to create a nurturing, educational environment where you can feel confident in your skills while meeting your professional goals. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your clinical competencies or navigate the path to becoming an LCSW, we’re committed to helping you succeed.

LMSW Supervision Requirements in Texas

In Texas, LMSWs need to complete 100 hours of supervision with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) over a minimum of 24 months, accumulating 3,000 hours of clinical experience to be eligible for the LCSW exam. While there’s no maximum time limit, the key is consistency. If you’re working full-time, supervision is typically scheduled once per week. For part-time work, you’ll need one hour of supervision for every 40 hours worked—usually amounting to 2 to 3 hours of supervision each month.

Your clinical work qualifies if you assess, diagnose, and treat mental health or substance use issues based on DSM-5 criteria for at least four hours per week.

Many job settings meet this requirement, including medical hospitals, private practices, schools, medical facilities, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), and forensic settings. Supervision covers crucial areas of practice such as ethics, assessment, treatment planning, and client care, with both individual and group sessions available. Together, we’ll create a supervision plan that aligns with your work schedule and professional needs, ensuring you meet all Texas state requirements while growing your expertise.

When you start supervision with us, you’ll complete a supervision agreement with your supervisor and notify your work supervisor. This ensures that everyone involved is aligned with your development plan.

Combining LMSW Supervision with Learning DBT

Are you interested in broadening your skill set while earning hours toward your LCSW? At Houston DBT Center, we offer an exciting opportunity to combine LMSW supervision with specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). You’ll have the chance to take an on-demand course covering the DBT basics and integrate those learnings into your supervision sessions. Our supervisors are highly skilled in DBT and will help you apply DBT techniques to your clinical practice, adding a highly sought-after specialty to your toolbox.

This unique approach allows you to develop not only your general clinical competencies but also expertise in DBT—ideal for working with clients facing emotion regulation challenges. If you’re passionate about making a difference in your clients’ lives, this is an excellent way to build skills while fulfilling your licensure requirements.
